I. Introduction:

The Department of Agricultural Economics and Statistics has been in existence at this college since the establishment of college. Its major function is under graduation and post graduation education, research and extension activities. Since its inception, this department has been making contributions in basic and applied research with significant policy implications.


The research thrust areas of this department has been modified to meet the emerging challenges with the changing times. Initially, the focus of research was on farm business analysis, resource allocation and adoption of improved technology. In last five years, perspective of research programme of this department broadened to incorporate research on total agricultural factor productivity, agricultural research investment, impact assessment and international trade.

II. Objectives:

The Department of Agricultural Economics and Statistics has twin objectives of conducting under and post - graduation teaching, research and extension in agricultural economics and statistics.


1. To develop a strong center for research and post-graduate education in agricultural economics using different newly developed econometric and statistical tools.
2. To strengthen and develop collaborative sisterhood links with national institutions
3. To organize short-term courses for in-service training for professional.
4. To conduct for progressive farmers and state government departmental staff in frontier areas of agricultural economics policy research and export.
5. To undertake benchmark surveys and assess the impact of technologies on farm economy.
